Soul Music Icon Isaac Hayes Found Dead

Soul music icon Isaac Hayes was found dead in his Memphis home early Sunday morning (August 10).

The pioneering R&B singer was found laying on the floor near a tread mill in his home.
Hayes, 65, was rushed to Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, where he was pronounced dead, around 2:00 am.

One of the main creative forces behind soul music in the 60’s and 70’s, Hayes made his name as an in-house producer and songwriter for Stax Records with formidable partner David Porter.
He became a recording artist and released the influential albums Hot Buttered Soul (1968) and Black Moses (1970).

The former featured the seminal "Walk On By," which has been sampled by numerous artists including the Notorious BIG ("Warning"), Tupac ("Me Against the World"), Faith Evans ("No Other Love"), and Compton’s Most Wanted ("Hood Took Me Under)."
One of the most popular Hip-Hop anthems, The Geto Boys' 1991 classic single "Mind Playing Tricks On Me," was powered by Hayes' track "Hung Up On My Baby," from his 1974 album, Tough Guys.

The loss hit Geto Boys' founding member Scarface particularly hard.
"Wow, this is some cold news to get," a shaken Scarface told AllHipHop.com in an exclusive interview. "I knew Isaac Hayes personally, I actually got a chance to go into the studio with him."

Scarface continued, saying, "'Mind Playing Tricks On Me’ was originally my solo song. I wrote three verses. I wrote my verse and then Bill took my last verse. Then Willie D. wrote his verse. I produced that song. I can’t believe this s**t. I been f**king with Black Moses forever. I grew up in a music household. That’s all we jammed."

Also a respected film composer, Hayes earned an Academy Award for his work on Shaft (1971), which stands today as his most accomplished and well-known work.
"I am deeply saddened by the loss of Isaac Hayes, a true historic world music figure. Isaac Hayes was the first African-American to win an Oscar for a music score but never lost sight of his commitment to his community and the betterment of mankind," Reverend Al Sharpton, President of National Action Network, told AllHipHop.com. "He was more than an artist he was a trailblazer, He was an innovator. He was a creative genius. I shall never forget how in the height of his career he still had time to work and lend his celebrity to those of us much younger and at that time who were totally unknown. Even in his later years he never hesitated to appear for a cause or endorse something that he felt was for the good of mankind. He will be sorely missed."

Rev. Sharpton will dedicate his radio program tonight to Isaac Hayes at 9:00p.m. on KISS 98.7 FM in New York, where Isaac Hayes was the morning DJ in the late 90's.
As an actor, Hayes has appeared in over 20 films including Truck Turner (1974), I’m Gonna Git You Sucka (1988), Posse (1993), and Hustle and Flow (2005).
An important figure in Hip-Hop due to sampling, his songs such "The Look of Love" have provided the musical foundation for Jay-Z ("Can I Live"), LL Cool J ("Hollis to Hollywood"), Mary J. Blige ("I Love You") and many more.

"First condolences to Ike Dirty his son and his entire family," Atlanta rapper Killer Mike told AllHipHop.com referring to Hayes son and producer Ike Dirty. "Thank God we were blessed with his music and his incredible work. He truly made Soul music bare to the bone. I'm a better artist because of my mama playing his music."

In later years, he became known to a new generation of fans through the Comedy Central series South Park, where he voiced the role of the affable but raunchy Chef.
Hayes would leave the show in 2005 due to differences with the creators over their religious satire.

Hayes was scheduled to celebrate 50 years of Stax Records on Friday (August 15) at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, where he headlined a bill that included performances by William Bell, Eddie Floyd, The Bar-Kays.

Hey Bo Diddley...we'll miss you!

Legendary R&B singer-songwriter Bo Diddley has died at age 79. He had been ill since suffering a stroke and heart attack last year. Best know for songs such as "Bo Diddley" and "Who Do You Love"; the Grammy-winning guitar player was at the top of the charts in the late 50s.

Bo played a rectangle-shaped guitar and often wore dark glasses and a black hat. He had a unique style which included frequently using the tremolo bar on his guitar. His technique influenced many musicians and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame.

Bo Diddley, born Otha Elias Bates, died of heart failure at his home in Archer, Florida on June 2, 2008. His funeral lasted four hours with lots of singing and dancing going on and was followed by a tribute concert featuring his touring band and other musicians!

Farewell Bo Diddley...you will be missed...but your music will live on forever!

It was 40 years ago today; April 4, 1968, at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, that a bullet ended the life of Dr. Martin Luther King. Four decades have passed since his untimely death but his legacy lives on!

King said "I have a dream". Foxy wants to know what you think about the progress that has been made over the last 40 years. Has King's dream been realized?

There is a very good chance that we may end up with an African-American President in The White House; that is certainly progress.

There is nothing like the thought of a date with a new guy to turn a woman into a bundle of nerves. One of the first things you can do to prepare for a date is to make sure that you look your best in all ways possible. Knowing that you look great on the outside can often boast your confidence on the inside. Remind yourself to be yourself when you are going out with a man you like and keep in mind that you are a worthwhile individual who deserves the best from a potential relationship. Let's look at some more women's dating tips.

If you are not sure about what to talk about when you are dating a new person then going out for a coffee, taking a stroll or going out for supper is probably not the best course of action as it will require a great deal of communication. A movie, a play or a sporting event is always a good bet for new daters as the attention will not be completely on you and therefore you will not have to do as much talking as you would if you shared a meal together.

Trying something new, exotic or adventurous is not advisable for a first date, such as sky diving, or eating Thai food because you want to remain as relaxed and calm as possible. Stick with the tried and true in the beginning. If your date turns into a relationship then you can try new things together down the line.

Always be genuine and sincere towards the other person and put your best foot forward. Calamities do sometimes happen even on dates and if one does occur, take it in stride just as you do with everything else in life. Realize that your future love life will not be determined by one date, whether it is bad or good.

Do not complain or nitpick about everything on a date. Men do not like it when women complain about the temperature in a restaurant, the choice of table, the lighting, the music or when they send back a meal because it is undercooked, overcooked, etc. When you do these things you appear impossible to please and a man is likely to believe that you will judge him just as harshly as you do other things. Relax, stay calm and go with the flow. Allow the date to unfold and enjoy yourself in the process. Having fun is what dating is all about after all!

Never unload all of your emotional baggage on a man right away. You would not want him to do that to you after all so be respectful of that and keep your problems to yourself. Getting to know another person is a lot like peeling an onion and if you reveal something unpleasant too soon you are likely to scare the person away before they have come to learn about all of your positive attributes. Keep talk about your ex boyfriends, your medical problems, your financial problems and the problems you are having with a co worker to yourself and instead show him what is wonderful about you. A date is not a therapy session after all.

Be witty and enthusiastic and let your true personality shine through. Having a good sense of humor also goes a long way in deflection nervous tension for both parties so by all means laugh at his funny stories. Men love possessing the ability to make a woman laugh and women enjoy laughing so go ahead and enjoy the moment!

Ike Turner Dies At Age 76

Ike Turner died Wednesday, December 12th at his home near San Diego, California. The Rock and Roll legend was 76, cause of death is unknown at this time.

Infamous for his abusive relationship with Tina Turner and his drug addiction, Ike also made many contributions to the development of rock and roll. He formed his own band, The Kings of Rhythm, but is best know for his work in the 60's and 70's with Tina Turner.

Ike and Tina were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. In 2007 Ike won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album. Yes we remember the cocaine addiction, the wife abuse and the prison time that Ike did...but let us also remember that Ike Turner was also a very talented musician; a rock and roll legend and he will be missed. May he rest in peace.

Marion Jones Stripped of Her Gold!

The International Olympic Committee officially stripped Marion Jones of her five Olympic medals and wiped her name from the record books. She was the first female track and field athlete to win five medals at a single Olympics. Now that accomplishment has been erased!

Jones had previously denied using performance-enhancing drugs; however, in October she admitted to using steroids before the Sydney Olympics. The IOC also banned Jones from the Beijing Olympics next year. They don't want her to attend in any capacity...not as an athelete or a coach. The IOC may also ban her from future games as well.

Jones' problems aren't over with yet. The United States Olympic Committee has asked her to repay more than 100,000 dollars in prize and bonus money she had received. All of this bad news for Marion Jones, but good news for the war against doping. It shows that the rules will be strickly enforced and the cheats will be exposed.

I Am Not An African - American

I am not an African-American. Don’t call me an African –American. I’m an American plain and simple. I was born here as were my parents and grandparents and you would have to search many a generation back before you found anyone in my family who originated from the continent of Africa. It’s time black people in this country stop trying to identify with a land whose culture is not their own. It’s time we stand up and say “This land is our land” and let everyone know we have a right to this country as much as anyone.

I understand the need for black people in America to find an identity all their own. We are as displaced as a people can be. Brought here in the early seventeenth century, first as indentured servants then as slaves the richness of culture these individuals brought from their various tribes was systematically ripped away from them.

Maybe in calling ourselves African-American we feel we can retrieve some of that richness that is lost to us and was stolen from our people so long ago. However the atrocities of the past are just that, the past and trying to identify with lost cultures isn’t going to help us achieve the respect and prosperity that has alluded us for so long in a country that is still hostile to those of African descent.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m in no way suggesting we forget about the past. It’s important to study and learn from your forefathers’ triumphs, mistakes and pain. Continuously changing our identification however, is not the best way to use that knowledge. We’ve had several “identities:” from Colored to Negro, Black and now African-American.

How can we expect anyone else to know who we are if we’re not sure of our own identity? How can we expect to come together as a people if we can’t agree on something as simple as to what to call ourselves? Hell the government is not even sure who we are if the 2000 census form was any indication with their Black, Negro, African-American non-hispanic category.

I say dispense with all of the confusion. We’re American. The sweat of our brow helped build this country. Benjamin Banneker a black man, helped design the white house. Something as simple as the traffic light and as life saving as the blood transfusion were created by black people. Americans. From music, to dance, to literature we have given much more to this country then it has have ever given to us. We can be proud in simply calling ourselves Americans because we have more then earned that right. It’s time we make use of it.

I was once asked if I viewed myself as an American first and black second. The answer is as long as America views me as black first then I’ll always be American second. But I’ll never be anything other then American, plain and simple.

Washington Redskins Safety Sean Taylor Died Early Tuseday Morning.

The Radio One family extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fans of Sean Taylor.

Miami native Sean Taylor was pronounced dead early Tuesday Morning, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Sean Taylor was a graduate of University of Miami where he was a great safety and later was drafted to the Washington Redskins. Sean Taylor was shot at his Palmetto Bay home early Monday morning in the upper part of his leg where he suffered massive blood loss from a severed femoral artery. After surgery Sean Taylor was said to be responsive to doctors which gave his family a little hope. But he passed away early in that morning.Sean was home resting from a knee injury he suffered in one of the Redskins football games.

Police are investigating the home invasion and murder of Sean Taylor. Sean Taylor is survived by his high school sweetheart Jackie Garcia, eight-teen month old daughter named Jackie, and his family. Please leave any thoughts and comments for his family and friends.

There will be behind-the-scenes video footage from her T.V. show and interviews with people who have become famous through YouTube. She said there will also be videos sent in by her viewers posted to her new channel on YouTube.

Winfrey's television show is alreaded watched by 30 million viewers each week in the United States alone, imagine how many people will be checking out the YouTube channel!

When I was growing up my mother always told me, " Just be yourself and men will like you," or " If he doesn't like you it is his loss." Sound familiar? Well it never felt like his loss. It felt like mine.

Perhaps you have wondered why women who might not be as pretty smart, talented or funny as you always seem to have dates on Saturday night, while you stay at home in front of the tube. The answer is one that you may have guessed - they know the secret of seduction.

This is a secret that has been passed down for ages from Queens to movie actresses, to current day divas. It is part of the reason why they have been able to attain and keep their titles.

What is this secret to attracting men? Well here is a hint - it has almost nothing to do with what they looked like. No the secret has more to do with how they saw themselves and the world arround them than how their physical attributes. So what is the secret to attracting men? Well, it begins with envisioning yourself as a hot, desireable woman. Picture yourself the focal point of men's interest starting today - not when you lose ten pounds or get your teeth whitened or your nose straightened.

Next picture the type of men that you want to be attracted to you. Imagine them down to the last detail. What qualities should they have both physically and emotionally? Do you want a guy to cuddle with on the couch or one who constantly takes you out on the town. Visualize your ideal scenario.

Do just these two steps every morning for ten minutes and right before you go to sleep for ten minutes. Add more visualization time as you can throughout the day. The more you picture it, the more real it will become to you.

Start with this to gain confidence and to get rid of the " he would never be interested in me" mentality. Then once you have that firmly programmed into your brain you can start on the external aspects like how you look and what you could be doing to align yourself with your vision ( ex. getting off the couch on Saturday nights and getting out there where your dream man can find you).

Dr. Watson Opens Mouth and Inserts Foot!

James Watson may be one of the world's top scientists but he is losing friends fast after making comments about black people being less intelligent than whites!

Dr. Watson is best known for his pioneering work with DNA and he won the Nobel Prize in 1962. While in Britian he made the comment heard around the world which caused this storm of controversy. Watson made an apology for his comments, but it's too little too late! The damage has already been done. He was suspended from his job at The Cold Spring Harbour Laboratory in New York and has canceled his book tour in the UK.

The 79 year old scientest says that his words were twisted to mislead readers about his position. He told a British weekly newspaper he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours -- whereas all the testing says not really."

The rest of the scientific community was quick to state that there is no scientific proof to back up what Dr. Watson said. His peers are saying that he has done significant damage to the reputation of the entire scientific community!
